The Story of Small Studio Sunday

Hi! Hello! And a heartfelt thanks for joining us! I’m Marisa Anne Cummings an L.A. based artist, designer and founder of Creative Thursday and Small Studio Sunday.

What started out as a small intention to be more creative one day a week while working a 9 to 5 job … Creative Thursday grew into a full time business that is home to my art, podcast, YouTube interview series, blog and book of the same name. 

The dream to become a working Artist became a reality with hundreds of thousands of pieces of work selling worldwide since 2006, through my own online boutique as well as select galleries and shops including Urban Outfitters, Crate and Barrel Kids, and Papyrus. 

My work has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, the Today Show, Where Women Create, Artful Blogging and has had many television and film appearances, most recently in a little film called the Avengers Endgame, where Iron Man is my Collector.

A love for pattern design also lead me to design 9 fabric collections, and I’m honored to share that my book “Creative Thursday – Everyday Inspiration to Grow Your Creative Practice” has been published in 4 languages. 

Known for my characters, my work is also evolving to include a new collection of abstract + landscapes reflecting both my love of travel to Europe and the L.A. life I’ve been living for the past 20 years.

As a self-taught Artist who wasn’t entirely sure how my dream of turning my Art into a career would come together—one thing I knew for sure about embarking on this journey, was the desire to keep the early promise I made from my very first podcast episode recorded in 2006, and that was to share my experiences along with what I learn both as a creative entrepreneur with you, should you feel inspired to pursue a similar path. 

It’s this passion to encourage others to live a life they love, especially creatively, that brought me to teaching, speaking and coaching Creatives in Business. 

And it’s that early vision to support and celebrate independent Artists that lead to our very first launch of Small Studio Sunday in August, 2021. 

On a mission to help Artists across the globe confidently, consistently, profitability sell their creations to dedicated Collectors online, I founded The Expansive Artists, a community of Business Artists she mentors, the same Artists who are featured in this Holiday 2021 session of Small Studio Sunday.

It’s an honor to have the opportunity to work with these wonderful and inspiring Artists, and to introduce you to them and their beautiful work.
